Most golden quartz in the world begins life as amethyst and warms into citrine through heat, sometimes from the earth itself. The name comes from the French citron, lemon.

It's a 7 on the Mohs scale — tough enough to live on your skin day after day — and most of it is mined in Brazil. A warm stone with a warm story: purple that turned to gold.
