Smoky Quartz

Smoky Quartz

For the days your head is everywhere at once and you just want to feel your own feet again.

You know those days? When you've been holding everything together for everyone and somewhere along the way you kind of lost yourself in it. That's Smoky Quartz weather.

The stone itself

Smoky quartz is pure quartz — silicon dioxide — that spent a very long time near natural radiation deep in the earth. That's literally where the smoke comes from: tiny traces of aluminium in the crystal, tinted grey-brown over millions of years by the ground's own faint radioactivity. The colour runs from pale champagne all the way to a near-black smoke.

It's a solid 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, so it wears beautifully every single day. The most famous smoky quartz in the world comes from Cairngorm in the Scottish Highlands — the Scots loved it so much they set it into their kilt pins and named it after the mountain. You'll also find it in the Swiss Alps, Brazil and Colorado.

What it does for you

It quietly gathers your scattered energy back to your center and turns the noise down, so you can finally think clearly and make the call you've been circling for days.

Who it's for

The woman who holds everyone together and forgets herself. The one moving through a big change who wants something solid underfoot.
